In Bloom

No, not the song by Nirvana: I'm referring to my job.

If I haven't proven it by now, here's some more evidence that I have the coolest job in the world. The pictures are of the school's greenhouse. You're looking at several thousand petunias, pansies (except I'm not pictured), sugar daddies (again, minus me), snapdragons (I have no joke for this one), and various other flowers. I helped to plant a lot of them as we overdid ourselves this year and almost doubled our intake of plugs. Notice the pots underneath the tables because there's no room anywhere else.

In other news, Kira and I had our anniversary yesterday. The big "Oh-Three" if you can believe it. We went to a resort & spa not too far from here and had a nice time. It was a bit of a juggle with little Avey following us around everywhere we went, but a good trip overall.

I have to say though, dinner was phenomenal. Schneitter's in Midway, Utah has the most amazing pasta Alfredo that's ever come in contact with my tongue. If you're anywhere near on a Saturday night and can spare $30 a person (luckily we got half off), you really need to try some.
Avey has mastered sitting up under her own power! She can't get into the position on her own, but if we sit her up and give her something to chew on, she can hold herself there quite stable indefinitely (we timed her up to 10 minutes straight).
After her first tooth surfaced, the second was quick to follow. Both bottom front teeth are in and very, very sharp. I'm presently writing up waivers for anyone to sign who wants to come within 10 feet of our baby. I don't want to get sued for any "severe lacerations" that may occur to their minor digits and limbs. I'll add a link to the pdf soon so you can download it and sign it before coming over. Stay tuned!

Baby Talk/On A Roll

Avey and I had an interesting conversation the other day. It went a little something like this:

Dad: "Hey Avey, how was your day?"

Avey: "Blah blah blah. Blah blah, blah blah blah blah! Blah!!!"

Dad: "Is that so? My my, you've been busy rolling around I see."

Avey: "Blah blah blah blah, blah blah blah blah. Blah blah?"

Dad: "Yes, you've picked that up very-"

Avey (interrupts): "BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH! Blah blah blah..." (sucks thumb and commences to smear Dad's face with drool. Both ad lib until Mom enters). That's a loose translation of baby talk anyway. I've just found it fascinating how she loves to talk just to hear the sound of her own voice; she doesn't really communicate her thoughts, but talks anyway (sounds like a lot of my past professors).
As she said, she's really started to roll in the past couple of days. We'll lay her down and turn the other way for just a second and she's rolled to the other side of the room almost. Then she'll roll back and forth and look at us expectantly for the accompanying cheers and claps.

The big news is that her first tooth has broken through! She won't let us get a good look at it, but we can definitely feel it. It's the bottom left incisor (with my limited dental vocabulary), and it's just as cute as she is. While we wait for that to come in even further, she's chewing on everything she can find. More updates always coming. Thanks for reading.

Returned Home From Home

It was quite a busy trip back home but, as always, well worth it. Avey enjoyed the extra space of a house, though at times she felt a bit overwhelmed... It was fantastic to get to see both sides of the family and show off our little angel. Our schedules were pretty pressed, mostly my fault because I came for only 3 days, but it really whetted my appetite for moving back in August!
Avey grew quite a bit in the two weeks she was away from me. She now says "Bah bah bah bah" and "Dah dah dah dah". She squirms a lot more while we change her diaper, and she is getting more ticklish. As always though, she's the happiest little baby I've ever seen...
The weirdest thing I noticed was that her hair all of a sudden turned really curly, red, and almost yarn-like. Observe:

Then Kira told me it was just a hat my Mother made (see a link to her site to the right).

Now, I'm just glad to have them both home. The whole time they were gone, I remembered why I got married in the first place. They fill a huge gap in my life that couldn't even be filled with chocolate or pizza. Welcome home Mom and Avey.

You Just Clicked in Vain

This is just a quick note that I am still in Colorado, and probably won't be able to dedicate enough time to post anything of quality until a little later this week (not that my posts are ever really that good). Thanks for checking, and I should have some decent pictures this time too.

Eli on Ice

Well, Kira and Avey are out of town, so I don't have any cute pictures. Just a really nasty one of me: Did I mention I have the best job ever? Well, I do. The above picture is me at work, ice skating. As I work at a school, we had Spring Break the past two weeks and one of the activities was gliding on the ice. As you can see, I am quite graceful.

With the wife and baby out of town, I'm not only wasting all of my time playing Lego Star Wars and eating junk food non-stop. I'm also making a big mess of the house. I do know where to draw the line though, and I spent about an hour tidying up and making the place look presentable. It's about how I expected it would be. I kind of enjoyed the peace and quiet the first couple of days and after that just get bored pretty easy. Just six more days. I'm almost looking forward to work on Monday just so I feel some sort of purpose in my life. That's why there's no news this week.
